AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's University Athletic Department has set the date for its annual NCAA Basketball take a Kid to the Game day for January 10, where they will host Newman in a doubleheader at the Recreation and Convocation Center. J.J. Jumper the official Basketball Mascot of the NCAA will also be in attendance for both games. Area youth, 14 and under, are invited to attend this special event and receive a free ticket with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. Youth will have the opportunity to experience the college game-day atmosphere and some exciting action as they watch the Hilltoppers compete for a win over the Jets. The women's game will start at 6 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. St. Edward's is hosting one of more than 700 games that will be played across the nation as part of the Take a Kid to the Game (TAKG) program in its 11th season. The project is a grass roots initiative that attracts the nation's youth and encourages adults to take kids to area college basketball games. | ||

This Saturday, January 12, the local Knights of Columbus will hold a free throw contest. It will take place in the family center starting at 9:00 a.m. Girls and boys, ages 10 to 14 are eligible to enter. The top three shooters will advance to a diocesan wide competition. There is no need to register prior to Saturday, interested students just show up ready to shoot. | ||

There will be a community meeting with the staff of the Office of the Police Monitor at St. Ignatius on Tuesday, January 15th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the main body of the church. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the community to the services of the City of Austin Office of the Police Monitor (OPM). The Monitor's Office is a place, independent of the Austin Police Department (APD), where people can register a complaint about a police officer. The OPM is the only one of its kind with a functioning office in Texas, and is one of more than 100 police oversight offices in the United States. Their services are free and open to everyone. Please make plans to come and hear about this informative program. Spanish-translation services will be provided. | ||
