Stephen Ministry

Provides one-to-one Christian care by trained lay caregivers to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated or divorced, unemployed, relocated or any other life challenge.

Requirements: be a practicing Catholic and a registered member of St. Ignatius; have gifts for caring ministry – compassionate, a good listener, spirit-filled.
Training: 50 hours (2 1/2 hr/wk; Thurs., 7-9:30 p.m.).
Time Commitment: 6 months of training followed by 18 months of service; following commissioning 2 ½ hr/twice monthly (Thurs., 7-9:30 p.m.) plus one hr/wk visiting care receiver.

Stephen Ministry invites you to our Continuing Education program on Thursday, May 8th, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Rectory Living Room at the Church Office building. The guest speaker is Della Barnette from Co-Dependents Anonymous.

Have you thought about becoming a Stephen Minister? Those who receive the Stephen Ministry training have expressed how helpful it has been to them personally as well as how much it has equipped them to reach out to others who are in need of support and care. Attention lectors: Our regularly scheduled Lector Study Group will meet on Tuesday, March 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the Church. Please come prepared to go over the proclamations for March 15th through April 6th. Thanks for your continued Stewardship to this Ministry.

The Gabriel Project will have their monthly meeting March 9th at 6:15 p.m. in the Father Payne House. Parishioner, Mary Jane Tobar will be speaking about the federal program WIC. Everyone is invited to attend.

Stephen Ministry depends on you to meet the needs of those in our faith community who need someone to listen, to care, and to empathize as they face a challenging time in their lives. THE PSALMS: four one and one-half hour classes, each class offered twice (once on Monday mornings beginning February 18th; and once on Wednesday evenings beginning February 20th); co-facilitated by Rabbi Monty Eliasov, President of the Twelve Tribe Torah Institute and Rabbi of Congregation Shalom Rav in Austin, Texas, and Mike Richardson, a member of the St. Ignatius, Martyr community active in the facilitation of Centering Prayer and other adult faith formation ministries; (see "NEW DATES" flyer in distribution racks) Contact: Mike Richardson -- telephone: 440-8840 or 633-0491 / email: pmike [at] mail.utexas.edu

Stephen Ministry: Was someone there for you when you needed help and support? Think about giving back by being trained as a Stephen Minister. You will receive 50 hours of initial training. Following commissioning, you will receive ongoing training and supervision. We may need to postpone our training class scheduled to begin February 7th, if we do not have more trainees. If you have been thinking about Stephen Ministry and would like more information, call the church office at 442-3602 and a Stephen Leader will contact you. This one-on-one caring ministry responds to the number of ministers we have available.

ATTENTION EXTRA ORDINARY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: If you are interested in taking Holy Communion to those who are homebound, in hospital or nursing homes there will be training on Wednesday, February 20th starting at 7 p.m. in the Annex Chapel.

Stephen Ministers listen, accept, care and walk with a person who is going through a difficult time. As the Stephen Minister provides support to meet the needs of the care receiver, God works through that relationship to bring hope and healing.
