This committee is about transforming the dominant culture of our society from one of materialism and individualism to one of relationship and justice. We embrace the social justice teachings of the church and practice living in a way that addresses the root of injustice. This ministry is about building relationships with others who want to act with power for the common good. We stand in solidarity to address injustices locally and abroad. Supports those individuals and groups involved in social ministry by helping them to work together in the following areas: Direct Social Service, Advocacy, Justice & Peace/ Global Solidarity, Community Organizing/Community Empowerment, and Catholic Social Teaching Education and Formation.
Requirements: A commitment to the full scope of the Social Justice teachings of the Church; familiarity with the Bishops document: ’ “Communities of Salt and Light” and participation in the effort to support the implementation of the document within the parish; participate in prayerful reflection on the document with a member of the Parish Social Ministry Committee; conversation with the committee and mutual discernment of a calling to be a member of the Parish Social Ministry Committee.
Time Commitment: Meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00pm
