Advent arrives as the nights grow the longest in the Northern Hemisphere. Everywhere we look, increasingly, we see darkness outside our homes. It may be easy to dispair, but our faith in Jesus Christ lights the way for us out of darkness, a way filled with hope.
This Advent season, grow in hope with St. Ignatius' Groups of Hope. Join your fellow St. Ignatius parishioners in person or over Zoom each week of Advent for prayer, faith sharing, and socializing in a small group setting. Each meeting will last about an hour and will feature the Gospel from the Sunday or will use the Adore Advent devotional. Meet new friends or invite old ones into your group. Let us together encounter God and find hope this Advent.
One way we'll pray with Scripture in Groups of Hope is with a prayer method called Lectio Divina, which literally translates into Divine Reading. It’s an ancient meditative prayer that has been practiced by monastics (monks and nuns) for more than a thousand years. The emphasis is not so much on reading but on listening with great attention to the Word of God.
