St. Ignatius Martyr Faith is a congregational supporter of the local non-profit Drive a Senior-South Austin (formerly known as South Austin Caregivers).Parishioners of St. Ignatius Martyr serve as stewards in this ministry by providing support to seniors (60 years and older) that helps meet their immediate needs, enhances their quality of life, and encourages independence in their daily living.
Whether it is a ride to the doctor or beauty shop, help with yard work, or a friendly visit, trained Drive a Senior volunteers provide services at no cost to seniors in need of assistance. Volunteers often provide more than a helping hand to clients. Many wonderful friendships have grown between clients and volunteers. It can be a very heart-warming experience for both.
Drive a Senior is a non-profit interfaith organization serving seniors which started in West Austin in 1985. Since then, it has grown into a collaboration of nine groups serving Austin and surrounding communities including Cedar Park, Elgin, Georgetown, Leander, Round Rock and Pflugerville. Our volunteers come from churches, synagogues and other places of worship, as well as the community at large.
