Information for Godparents / Sponsors

Only one Godparent is required for Confirmation.

The Godparent (sponsor):
 

• Must be 16 years or older.
• Is to be designated by the parents or guardian.
• Must be a practicing Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken.
• Is, if married, in a valid Catholic marriage.
• Is not bound by any canonical penalty.
• Must not be the mother or the father of the one to be baptized.
• Must complete the Baptism Sponsor Covenant form.
• Must be able to receive communion on the day of the sacrament.

If you are having trouble choosing a sponsor, ask yourself some of these questions…
 

• Who do I look to as a model in my faith?
• Who challenges me to become the person God wants me to be?
• Who has been a constant support to me in my faith over the years, and who do I see spiritually supporting me for the rest of my life?
• Who has time to dedicate to helping me grow to love the Lord more during this time of preparation, as well as after my Confirmation?
• Who has influenced me to want to be an active part of the Catholic Church?
