What is a synod?
Synod is a Greek word meaning a meeting or assembly. This Synod is not just another meeting with oral presentations and written reports. This Synod is a process of journeying together. As the Church, we will listen to each other, dialogue with each other, pray together, discern together, and make decisions together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world!
Pope Francis is asking each local diocese to gather — clergy, religious and laity — to first listen to each other’s joys and hopes, and griefs and anxieties (c.f. Gaudium et Spes no. 1). After we listen to each other, we are called to dialogue together on ways we can accompany each other as we seek to grow in holiness. Listening and speaking within the Church always involves prayer. We are listening, dialoguing, and praying together so that we can hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. The “goal” of this journeying together is not to create a new vision or pastoral plan with objectives. Rather, the goal of our journeying together is to be present with one another, to listen and learn with each other, and to grow closer to the Lord and His Church.
The entire Catholic Church is called to participate in the upcoming Synod of Bishops! The Synod is entitled: "For a Synodal Church: COMMUNION, PARTICIPATE, and MISSION." Synod is a Greek word (synodos) meaning a meeting or assembly. The two Greek words that make up Synod are syn meaning together and hodos meaning way of journey. Pope Francis has called the entire People of God to journey together! This Synod is a process of journeying together. As the Church, we will listen to each other, dialogue with each other, pray together, discern together and make decisions together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world!For a Synodal Church Survey
In preparation for the international Synod of Bishops in 2023, Pope Francis wants your input on the topic of “For a Synodal Church, Communion, Participation, and Mission.” People of all ages, Catholics – and those who are not in regular practice of the faith – are invited to provide their feedback on the Church’s mission.
¡Toda la Iglesia Católica está llamada a participar en el próximo Sínodo de Obispos! El próximo Sínodo se titula: "Por una Iglesia sinodal: Comunión, participación y misión". Sínodo es una palabra griega (synodos) que significa reunion o asamblea. ¡El Papa Francisco ha llamado a todo el Pueblo de Dios a caminar juntos! Como Iglesia, nos escucharemos unos con otros, dialogaremos, oraremos juntos, ¡discerniremos juntos y tomaremos decisiones juntos con el propósito de proclamar el Evangelio de Jesucristo al mundo!
En preparación para el Sínodo Internacional de Obispos en el 2023, el Papa Francisco quiere su opinión sobre el tema de "Por una Iglesia sinodal, comunión, participación y misión". Personas de todas las edades, Católicos, y aquellos que no practican regularmente la fe, están invitados a compartir sus comentarios sobre la misión de la Iglesia.
