This year, our parish is honored to host the 32nd annual Red Mass on Saturday, September 23, at our scheduled 5 p.m. Mass time. A Red Mass is celebrated every year for the opening of the judicial year. It is called a Red Mass, because the vestments are red and the Holy Spirit is invoked upon the work of the judiciaries. Even though it will be a “red” Mass, the colors of Ordinary Time, the normal readings, and many of the prayers will be for the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Bishop Joe Vasquez will be the principal celebrant, and there will be dignitaries (many from the legal professions) in attendance. All are welcome! We encourage those who plan to attend the Mass to arrive early. Most of all, let us remember to bring the spirit of hospitality that our parish is known for to this liturgy.
On the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Sunday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m., join us for choral vespers. The choir of St. Ignatius (under the direction of Dr. John J. Hoffman and the parish cantors) will offer musical leadership for the liturgy with Deacon Steve Jakubowski, CSC, presiding. St. Thérèse, was born 150 years ago on January 2, 1873 in the small Normandy village of Lisieux, France. She was beatified 100 years ago by Pope Pius XI on April 29, 1923. A little over two years after her beatification and on May 17, 1925, only 28 years after her death she was canonized. She entered the cloistered Carmelite convent of Lisieux in 1888 when she was just 15 years old and died in 1897, only nine years after she became a nun. She was an extraordinary woman of heroic virtue. Join us in praying for the intercession of St. Thérèse of Lisieux.
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. To kick-off the month, on Monday, October 2, at 7 p.m. in the main church the Catholic Daughters invite you to attend a Living Rosary and participate by representing one bead of the Holy Rosary. Let us draw closer to God by meditating on the mysteries of the rosary. Blessed Mother, pray for us!
On October 4, our daily Mass at 12:05 p.m. will be in memory of Rev. Harold W. Essling, C.S.C., (October 4, 1931 – August 9, 2023), Associate Pastor of St. Ignatius Martyr from 1995 – 2004. “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him.” Rev. Harold offered his life and his life’s work in the service of the Lord.
On October 4, at 2:30 p.m. in honor of St. Francis of Assisi’s feast day, we will have our annual blessing of the pets. St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and ecology. He expressed his devotion to God in his love for all of God’s creation. We invite our school and parish families to join us. Please be sure to have your furry friends on a leash.
Plan to join St. Ignatius retirees and empty-nesters for Mass, a great meal, and conversation. We meet the first Friday of every month for Mass at 12:05 p.m. followed by a light luncheon in the Annex dining room. The next gathering of the First Friday Fellowship will be on October 6, please RSVP by Thursday, September 28. Email [email protected] or call the church office. We look forward to having you join us!
